The famous Waterfalls Walk in Ingleton is an 8Km circuitous route over private land, taking in two river valleys with a variety of waterfalls and providing great views over the dales. Starting from the carpark the path proceeds along the bottom of Broadwood with the river Twiss is on your right. Following the path you enter Swilla Glen which is an attractive canyon with rocks rising steeply to over 200 feet on the left bank of the river, and almost as high, but with a more gradual slope, on the right bank. The river is, quite often, a brown colour from the peat further upstream. Look out for the “money tree” as you stroll through the glen. |

As the path winds on you come to a bridge spanning the stream, and you cross over to the left bank and into Pecca Glen. The rocks on the right bank rise too steeply to allow further passage on that side for a while. You reach a viewing area from where you can see the first Pecca Fall (there are five in all) but a much better view is to be had a hundred yards or so further on where you again cross the river. The path is now on the right bank of the river and rises fairly steeply up steps, with platforms from where you get views of the Pecca Twin Falls and Hollybush Spout. The steps then lead out of the gorge on to open moor where there is a refreshment hut (not always open). Further on is Cuckoo Island and then Thornton Force, arguably the best waterfall in the area, comes into view. It falls about 45 feet into a pool and the adventurous may scramble over the rocks and get behind the fall. Leaving Thornton Force and ascending the winding steps you climb into Raven Ray. Proceeding up stream you get a good view into Kingsdale. Cross over the bridge and proceed up the path and through a gate on to a track which is an old Roman road. Turn right on to the track and look right towards the Trough of Bowland. Continuing on you come to Scar End Farm and Twisleton Hall Farm, the latter being an old nunnery. Further along the track you get a fine view of Ingleborough before winding your way down towards Beezley Farm, first crossing Oddies Lane, the road from Ingleton to Chapel le Dale. | ![]() Thornton Force ![]() Raven Ray ![]() Final bridge over Twiss |
Pass through the farm to get to Beezley Falls in a glen of gnarled oak trees. From the first fall the water descends over Triple Spout, three falls side by side, and races its way to Rival Falls where it plunges into “Black Hole” which is reputed to be around 90 feet deep. It then roars on to Baxenghyll Gorge where there is a viewing bridge giving a dramatic view of the river below, not for those afraid of heights! Beyond Baxenghyll Gorge the path passes Snow Falls which may be missed unless you look back. From Snow Falls the path continues on through Twisleton Glen crossing the final bridge of the walk before passing by old limestone quarries and ending in the village centre. The 4˝ mile (8Km) walk takes around 2 to 2˝ hours depending on walking speed and viewing time. | ![]() Beezley Falls |
