There are a number of things to see and do, either in Ingleton itself or within a mile or so of the village. In the village is the Ingleton Pottery where you can see high fired stoneware pottery being made. At the Peter Bolton gallery you can browse original atmospheric art work by local artist Peter Bolton or at Curlew Crafts you can view paintings and photographs by local artists while enjoying a cup of coffee and a cake. The famous Ingleton Waterfalls walk starts from the village and takes you through 8Kms of great scenery with waterfalls a plenty along the way. About halfway round the Waterfalls Walk you can divert across the river Doe by stepping stones to White Scar Cave, the longest show cave in England. The guided visit leaves on the hour and takes about 80 mins. The caves can also be reached direct from Ingleton on the Hawes road about 2.5 kms from the village Mighty Ingleborough can be ascended directly from Ingleton in about 1.5 hours. Longer routes up Ingleborough also start from Ingleton going via Chaple-le-Dale or Clapham, you can, of course, ascend by one route and descend by another. For more serious climbers Inglesport Climbing and Caving shop (and cafe) have a climbing wall which is acknowledged to be one of the best in the UK. Although the Three Peaks of Yorkshire challanges normally start from Horton in Ribbledale the competitors normally stay in Ingleton where there is a greater selection of accommodation. |
